Diane Noomin (born 1947 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American comics artist associated with the underground comix movement, best known for her character Didi Glitz. She is the editor of the anthology series Twisted Sisters, and one of the original contributors to Wimmen's Comix.
Life and Career[]
Noomin attended New York High School of Music and Art, Brooklyn College, and Pratt Institute. She first created her character Didi Glitz as a Halloween costume for a party thrown by cartoonist Gilbert Shelton. An early contributor to Wimmen's Comix, she and Aline Kominsky split off after issue 4 after clashing with the rest of the collective over the self-deprecating tone they wanted to utilize in their stories (the rest of the collective preferred the stories to be empowering or confessional). In 1981, she collaborated on the musical comedy "I'd Rather Be Doing Something Else:The DiDi Glitz Story" with the San Francisco-based women's theater group, Les Nickelettes.
She won an Inkpot Award in 1992. Twisted Sisters vols. 1 and 2 were also each nominated for Eisner Awards for Best Anthology in 1992 and 1995 respectively.
She has curated and shown work in the Twisted Sister's Show at White Columns Gallery in 1996, The Museum of Cartoon Art of San Francsico in 1995 and La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles in 1991. In 1994, she had a solo exhibition at the Little Frankenstein Gallery in San Francisco.
She lives in Connecticut with her husband, "Zippy the Pinhead" cartoonist Bill Griffith.
